What is the Greenpower project ?

The Greenpower project is a competition supported by IMechE (Institute of Mechanical Engineers) and The Ford Motor Company amongst others, to design and build an electrically powered car using two 12 volt car batteries and a 24 volt wheelchair motor, for racing against schools and colleges around the UK.

The Aims of Greenpower

The Greenpower project is designed to promote engineering and technology to pupils aged 10 to 18.

History of Greenpower

The first Greenpower event race was organized by ‘Sussex Enterprise’© in 1999. The race lasted 6 hours with 22 cars competing, one year later the number of cars had doubled and the competition expanded with 3 heats in July and a national final in October.
