Greenpower @ Aldenham School - What We Are Doing

The pictures below show the arrival of our new motor and the surprise discovery of a centrifugal clutch.

We did some research into the possible use of clutches, to reduce power consumption and therefore increase the battery life. We believe that by having the motor always engaged with the driving axel it will have a higher rolling resistance, compared with having it disengaged (i.e. using a clutch).

We have also found that the use of a clutch could have the added benefit of helping to efficiently transfer the power from the motor to the driving wheels during a standing start.
